National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation Starts 2020 Strong – Already Exceeding Expectations in North Texas

Announces Chief Architect, Appointment of Seven New Board Members – Including Dallas Cowboys EVP Charlotte Jones and St. Louis Cardinals Co-Owner & former Ambassador Craig Roberts Stapleton

Museum also opens new Texas offices and hires key staff, further building momentum for 2024 grand opening in Arlington, Texas

ARLINGTON, TX — (January 30, 2020) — The National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation (NMOHMF) today announced major expansions of its national and North Texas operations as well as selection of the chief architect for the project.

Of the exciting new developments for the museum and foundation, NMOHMF CEO Joe Daniels said, “2020 is off to an amazing start. Between a world-class site and unparalleled support in Arlington, Texas, our new Chief Architect and our tremendous new hires and board members, we have amazing partners in our mission to preserve the stories of Medal of Honor recipients and give all Americans a place to honor and learn from their courage, sacrifice and love of country. These national heroes gave everything they could to protect our nation. It’s incumbent on all of us to come together as a country to now give back.”

“In keeping with our well-known Arlington can-do spirit, the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation has joined the North Texas community with a bang,” said Arlington Texas Mayor Jeff Williams. “In the 100 days since they announced Arlington as the museum’s home, the Foundation has laid down strong roots in North Texas, doubling the size of the staff, adding great Texas leaders to the Board of Directors, and selecting an architect and design worthy of this amazing mission.” 

Rafael Viñoly, founder of Rafael Viñoly Architects, will serve as Chief Architect for the design of this historic museum telling the stories of the more than 3,500 brave recipients of the Medal of Honor, the highest award for valor in combat.

I am humbled to play a part in inspiring current and future generations of Americans by recognizing these exceptional patriots and designing a building which will boldly demonstrate their deep love of country, of devotion to others, and unity,” said architect Rafael Viñoly.

Rafael Viñoly Architects is an internationally renowned architectural firm based in New York City with offices around the globe. Among the award-winning courthouses, museums, performing arts centers, convention centers, athletic facilities and other diverse works the firm has spearheaded are U.S. icons including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate in Boston and Frederick P. Rose Hall, the new home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, among many others. 

The NMOHMF also announced the appointment of seven new Members to its Board of Directors who will help oversee development and construction of the museum in Arlington and the creation of a National Medal of Honor Monument in Washington, D.C. The addition of these powerhouse leaders in business and society demonstrates how important building a home for America’s heroes is to the country at large.

New NMOHMF Board Members:

  • Reed Cordish – Principal and Partner of The Cordish Companies & President of Entertainment Consulting International
  • Charlotte Jones – Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer for the Dallas Cowboys & Chairman of the NFL Foundation
  • Neil Leibman – CEO of Summer Energy & Co-Owner and Chief Operating Officer of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club
  • Joel Marcus – Executive Chairman & Founder of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc./Alexandria Venture Investments
  • Hill Perot – Vice President of Hillwood, a leading global real estate development company
  • Craig Roberts Stapleton – Senior Advisor at Stone Point Capital, co-owner of the St. Louis Cardinals & former U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic and France
  • Alex Tisch – Vice President of Loews Corporation & Chief Commercial and Development Officer/Executive Vice President of Loews Hotels & Co.
  • The NMOHMF also announced new permanent offices in Globe Life Park, the former home of the Texas Rangers, opening to the public later in Q1 2020. In addition to housing the growing North Texas-based museum foundation staff, the offices will have temporary exhibits for the public, will become the clearinghouse for Medal of Honor memorabilia and artifacts, and will be the headquarters for the national character education program being developed in cooperation with living Medal of Honor recipients and the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation. 

    With new office space comes the announcement of seven important new team members whose work will be critical to the success of the mission to build a museum where the entire nation can recognize the bravery of individuals who went above and beyond the call of duty. These new team members bring a winning combination of decades of experience in the North Texas business community as well as national museum and foundation expertise.

  • James Connors, Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Connors joined NMOHMF after serving as Managing Director, Asset Management for Fosun International’s U.S. commercial real estate holdings and Chief Operating Officer of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum Foundation.
  • Michael Caldwell, Chief of Staff. Mr. Caldwell, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, joined after more than three years as Chief Operating Officer of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
  • Robert Shenk, Chief Museum Content Officer. Mr. Shenk most recently served as Senior Vice President for Visitor Engagement for George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
  • Marc Wolf, Vice President of Development. Mr. Wolf previously served as Director of Development in the Northeast for the Navy SEAL Foundation.
  • Jeannie Deakyne, Vice President of Operations. Ms. Deakyne is an Army veteran who most recently served as Director of Executive Program Development at Texas Christian University. 
  • Kristin Vandergriff, Director of Development for the Texas region. Ms. Vandergriff previously served as District Director for Texas Congresswoman Kay Granger (TX-12).
  • Amber Zuckerman, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Community Relations. Ms. Zuckerman comes to the team after having served as Vice President of Development and Community Relations for the North Texas Commission.
