Teach History in a Way Students Remember

A professional development experience grounded in inquiry, storytelling, and real human stories—designed to help Grades 6–12 educators bring history to life.

Teaching History Through Inquiry, Storytelling, and Student Engagement

Tuesday, June 2, 2026
National Medal of Honor Museum – Griffin Institute Classroom
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Overview

History isn’t just something students learn—it’s something they connect with.

This one-day professional development experience invites educators to rethink how history is taught, using inquiry-based strategies, storytelling, and primary sources to deepen engagement and understanding.

Grounded in the immersive environment of the National Medal of Honor Museum, the session explores how students can analyze evidence, consider multiple perspectives, and make meaningful connections between the past and their own lives.

Why It Matters

Students engage more deeply when history feels human.

Through the stories of Medal of Honor Recipients—ordinary Americans who took extraordinary action—educators gain tools to help students:

·      Ask better questions

·      Think critically about evidence

·      See history as lived experience, not just content

·      Connect lessons to character, leadership, and decision-making

This approach reflects the Museum’s commitment to using real stories to inspire reflection, understanding, and action.

What You’ll Experience

·      A guided Museum experience demonstrating inquiry in action

·      Instructional frameworks for student-centered learning

·      Practical strategies for literacy and historical thinking

·      Collaborative lesson design aligned to TEKS

·      Time to reflect, discuss, and apply learning to your classroom
