A Family Storytelling Experience

The Stories We Carry: William Shemin and The Ivy Hero

Stories don’t end when they’re told—they continue in how they’re remembered, shared, and lived.

Join us for a family-centered storytelling experience exploring the life and legacy of Medal of Honor Recipient William Shemin—led by his own family. Through conversation and guided activities, this program invites participants to reflect on how values like service, courage, and perseverance are carried across generations—and how those same values show up in their own lives.

Date/Time

Sunday, May 3, 2026 | 2:00–4:00 PM

Location

Neel Kearby Theater and Institute
National Medal of Honor Museum (1861 AT&T Way, Arlington, TX 76011)

What to Expect:

Theater Program
Begin with a live conversation featuring Sara Shemin Cass and Dan Burstein, relatives of William Shemin and co-authors of The Ivy Hero. Together, they will share personal insights into Shemin’s story, his service, and the long journey toward recognition—offering a perspective that connects history to family, memory, and meaning.

Hands-On Storytelling Activities
Following the program, families are invited to participate in guided storytelling activities designed for youth (ages 8–12) and their caregivers. Through creative prompts and reflection, participants will explore identity, values, and shared experiences—beginning to shape a story of their own.

Meet & Greet + Book Signing
Stay after the program to meet Sara Shemin Cass and Dan Burstein and have your copy of The Ivy Hero signed.

Take-Home Materials
Each participant will leave with storytelling resources and keepsakes to continue reflecting, sharing, and preserving their own stories beyond the Museum.

Guests are encouraged to explore the Museum prior to the program. Guests are still required to purchase general admission tickets if they wish to visit the exhibit deck.

Who Should Attend:

This program is designed for families, youth (ages 8+), educators, and community members interested in how stories shape identity, connection, and values across generations.
