Fifty years ago, Marine Capt. James Livingston was in the faraway fields of Vietnam in a landscape on edge.
Around the village of Dai Do during three days of battle from April 30 to May 2, 1968, he would face grenades, mortars and small arms fire that would decimate the other Marines around him.
Before the fight was over, there would be a fixed bayonet charge and fighting in trenchworks.
